Fresh off their impressive 4th place finish in the Division II Freshman Boys race at Angels Camp, the determined Honkers returned to the track, hungry for an opportunity to improve their standing. The stage was set on Saturday for a thrilling rematch, with the field of participants nearly halved, providing a chance for the "qualified Honkers" to make their mark.

Facing off against the front half of the competition, Izak Pacheco and Joseph Thomas emerged as standout performers, securing spots in the top 5. Pacheco, in particular, showcased his prowess, earning the title of "runner up" with a commendable time of 12:13, securing the 2nd position out of 49 participants. Joseph Thomas wasn't far behind, claiming the 3rd spot with a time of 12:15.

From the very start, Pacheco and Thomas led the Honkers with determination and skill. Their stellar performances not only contributed significantly to the team's overall success but also earned them well-deserved medals.

The team's collective effort was evident as they navigated the challenging course. Chris Camolinga, finishing at 13:04 and securing the 17th position, played a crucial role in the Honkers' strategy. Samuel Paine (15:05, 44th/49) and Joseph Martinez-Corona (15:24, 45th/49) rounded out the scoring, showcasing the team's depth and resilience.

Despite the fierce competition, the Honkers held their ground and demonstrated their commitment to excellence. The final team scores reflected their admirable performance:

Whitney - 49 points
Vacaville - 61 points
Bella Vista - 67 points
Yuba City - 87 points
Granite Bay - 95 points
Rio Americano - 149 points

The Honkers may not have clinched the top spot, but their determination, teamwork, and individual achievements were commendable. As they continue to hone their skills and face new challenges, the Honkers are undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the world of cross country. The journey has only just begun for these young athletes, and their future performances promise to be as exciting as their recent endeavors.
