The Yuba City High School Honkers baseball team didn't just have a great season—they had a legendary one. The 2024-2025 Honkers shattered records, captured multiple championships, and cemented their place as one of the best teams in California high school baseball history.
The team finished with an astonishing 31-5 record, logging the most wins of any baseball team in the entire state! Their dominance was recognized in the final rankings, ending the season as #9 in California, #1 in Sacramento, and #1 in the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS).

NorCal & Section Championship Glory.

The Honkers' journey was defined by clutch victories in high-stakes games:
NorCal Division 2 State Champions: The ultimate prize was secured on Saturday, June 7th—the day after graduation—in an epic, tense battle against Saint Francis of Mountain View. The Honkers prevailed 3-2 to claim the prestigious NorCal Division 2 State Championship.

Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 Champions: Earlier in the month, the Honkers captured the SJS D3 title in an amazing back-and-forth, 9-inning thriller against Central Catholic of Modesto. The game ended in an improbable 8-7 walk-off win when a batter was hit by a pitch, sending the team into pandemonium.

Foothill Valley League Champions: The Honkers dominated their league competition, winning the Foothill Valley League title with a stellar 16-2 record.

Individual Honors and Coaching Recognition

The success on the field led to numerous individual accolades for the team and its leaders:
Brandon Pelechowicz had a season for the ages, earning the highly-coveted All-California Team selection, the Sacramento Bee Player of the Year, and the Foothill Valley League MVP.
Brody Miller and Eliaja Moncher were recognized for their outstanding play, both earning Sacramento Bee Second Team selections.
Ashton Decker and Cesar Guizar rounded out the regional honors with Sacramento Bee Honorable Mention.

Leading the team was Head Coach Maury Castaneda, whose guidance was celebrated with dual honors: he was named the Sacramento Bee's Coach of the Year and the West Coast Preps NorCal Coach of the Year.

The Yuba City Honkers proved they are champions both on the diamond and in the classroom. The team was recognized for their commitment to excellence by receiving the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Academic Excellence Award. This honor acknowledges teams that maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrating that dedication to academics is paramount to the program's success.
