With the final pitch of the spring delivered, the Yuba City Honkers baseball team can look back on a season defined by grit, elite individual accolades, and a deep determination to protect their winning culture.
Competing in the highly competitive Foothill Valley League (FVL), the Honkers battled their way to a 14-14 overall record and secured a coveted spot in the CIF Division 3 Playoffs.
Postseason Push: A Valiant Effort
After a strong league campaign, Yuba City entered the postseason ready to make noise. They did exactly that in the opening round, delivering a masterpiece on the diamond to shut out Fairfield High School in a dominant 5-0 victory.
The playoff journey ultimately came to an end in the quarterfinals, where the Honkers fell short in a hard-fought battle against a tough Christian Brothers High School squad. For the departing seniors, the final whistle brought a bittersweet moment; while they hungered for another deep run following last year's historic state championship campaign, they leave behind a legacy that has firmly established Yuba City as a regional powerhouse.
Hardware and History: All-League Honors & A New School Record
The Honkers' talent was on full display this year, as reflected by the massive haul of Foothill Valley League postseason honors:
League MVP: Senior standout Brody Miller took home the FVL Most Valuable Player award after a spectacular season.
First-Team All-League: Powerhouse performers Max Guth and Ivan Perez both earned First-Team honors for their stellar play.
Second-Team All-League: Aiden Howard, Emilio Ramirez, and Josh Dalpoggetto were recognized for their vital contributions to the team’s success.
Honorable Mention: Cesar Guizar received well-deserved recognition for his steady performance throughout the year.
Miller Sits Atop the Record Books
In his final game in a Honker uniform, Brody Miller cemented his name in Yuba City lore. Miller swiped his 27th stolen base of the season, officially breaking the school's all-time single-season record. His name will now permanently sit atop the record board in the dugout—a fitting tribute to a historic high school career. Miller has officially committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Sacramento City College this fall, while the remaining seniors are currently finalizing their exciting next steps.
The Future is Bright: 2027 Outlook
While the Honkers will deeply miss the leadership and talent of their graduating class, the foundation for next year is incredibly rock-solid. Head Coach Maury Castaneda is super excited and optimistic about the strong group of kids coming back.
The program gained an immense amount of valuable experience this year through both the rigorous league schedule and the high-stakes playoff run. With a very strong, senior-led class returning, a deep pitching staff, and a talented crop of rising players from a successful JV season, all of that varsity experience rolling into next year has the coaching staff thrilled for what this team can accomplish.
Nothing is out of reach for Yuba City next season.
Congratulations to our Honkers on a fantastic year, and thank you to our seniors for everything you've given to this program!
